Gotta love a good job

There are lots of things I like to do in this world, and although I hate to work, I love to make money, and I love to learn and innovate new things (which is probably why I became an engineer in the first place). I've always believed that this profession chose me. I was that kid that was always taking apart everything electronic that I could get my hands on just so I could see what was inside. Of course, once I saw what was inside I usually didn't understand it and proceeded to move on to the next victim. Just like I do now - some things don't change. I also have a dream that I would make a million dollars. My parents still tell me of when I was 10 yrs old telling them that I was going to be a millionaire. I still chuckle now when they tell me...I usually say...millionaire?? Don't you mean, billionaire?? Why stop there, eh? I have a ways to go before I realize this one.

As for my day job, I work at a nuclear plant that has 8 reactors - pretty cool. My job basically involves Pressure Boundary, Root Cause Analysis, inspection programs, etc. etc.. I actually just got hired as a Lead Root Cause Team evaluator - which is like "Columbo" for engineers. It pretty much advanced my career about 8-10 years...which I'm SO stoked about. I also run a small incorporated company with my Dad and bro called "Devour Technologies". We started it about 2.5 years ago, and tried to focus on producing electrodes for EDM (electrode die machining) but we made some adjustments and we now specialize in Inspection and Quality assurance as well. We've got about 37 people working for us part time now and have made 6 figures in 6 months - which isn't bad at all. If we didn't have to pay wages or salaries we'd be almost out of debt!. It's definitely got some potential and I'm always trying to figure out new gadgets to sell and/or market. We'll see where it goes.

The problem is that I have such a good job at the nuke plant I don't want to leave...and if I do it'll be back to Peterborough to work on the business full time (which is about 55 min from where I live now). This is bad because I love Toronto a lot - it's great to party, and the lifestyle is pretty trendy. Plus there are tons of more quality people to meet (i.e. girls) in this area and it's not the hick town that Peterborough is. Plus I love to travel - it would be awesome to live in Australia for a year or even England...but how can I justify that when I've got 2 great things going. Ever heard of too much of a good thing?? Around here they call it golden handcuffs. So what do I do. It seems I'm just waiting to meet a girl and then I'll plan the rest out later. Things will all work out in the end I suppose.
